A Little Bit of Good News
As we are basking in the terrific weather here in Kerry for the last couple of months, which I doubt many are complaining about except for maybe the farmers who really need some rain for their crops, we can really appreciate the fabulous scenery here in the County, there really is no where else like Kerry when we get this great weather, we have the best of scenery, beaches, food, shopping, people, attractions etc. The fine weather really brings out the best in people, everyone is in good spirits, its better for business as when we are happy we are more likely to part with a few extra euro and this in turns stimulates the local economy.
One the local front a little bit of good news is always welcome, firstly Killarney was was named the best-kept town in the country on Tuesday, as well as being named Ireland’s Best-Kept Large Town out of a field of 13 finalists in the All-Ireland competition. Toby World in Tralee are celebrating this week after being honoured with a very prestigious award. The Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have honoured Toby World with a Silver Standard Award, which is the highest award given by the society to any company as young as Toby World.
Four new permanent consultant posts have been approved for Kerry General Hospital. The jobs, which have been advertised this month, are two new consultants in emergency medicine and a further two for care of the elderly. These posts are badly needed in the County.
Tralee Musical Society are also celebrating this week after they walked away with one gong at this year's HB Association of Irish Musical Societies Awards. The event which was held in Killarney at the weekend. Tralee's Ken Murphy won the Mary Kelly Unsung Hero Award for his hard work and dedication.
A group of 55 South Kerry tourism businesses have become the first in Ireland to be certified under the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The awards were presented to the businesses by environmentalist, architect and TV presenter, Duncan Stewart, from RTE’s ‘Eco-Eye’ and ‘About the House’.
So with all the doom and gloom of the recession which we are all sick of hearing, a little bit of good news is always good to hear, also hoping that the good weather will continue for a few more months as with Kerry being very dependent on tourism, fine weather will always bring tourists into kerry and this in turn has a major positive knock on effect for the local economy.
