Diarmuid Murphy Retires From Kerry Team
The Kerry team suffered a setback when Diarmuid Murphy announced that he is retiring from inter county football. Diarmuid cited an ongoing back problem as the reason for his retirement.
Diarmuid made his County debut in 2004 after Declan O Keeffe's retirement and quickly establised himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Country. The 34 year old will be a big loss to Kerry, we all remember the penalty save he made in the dying moments of this years Championship game against Sligo, if Sligo had scored that penalty we would not have Sam Maguire back in Kerry this year.
Diarmuid has won 4 All-Ireland medals, 2 national leagues and 6 Munster titles and 3 All-stars in his time wearing the County colours. He will be missed but Kerry have some great young keepers coming through the ranks to fill his boots.
