Author Michael Smith will be giving a talk about his new book Great Endeavour
Ireland's Antarctic Explorers , illustrated with outstanding historic photographs, about Ireland's unique involvement in the exploration of Antarctica. Ireland stands at the heart of Antarctic exploration and the story will cover 200 years of dramatic events, starting with Bransfield and Crozier in the 19th century, through to Crean, Shackleton and others in the 20th century and onto to today's adventurers, like Kerryman Mike Barry and Pat Falvey who completed the tasks begun by the early Irish explorers and stood at the South Pole. There will be opportunity for questions after the talk.
