If you are trying to plan something to do this weekend whether it is a day out with the kids or a few hours to yourself there is plenty going on around Naas for you to sink your teeth into.

Friday night is this year’s Culture Night and there are a few events planned which you can attend absolutely free. At Clane Project Group they are holding an arts, crafts and group display for the public and the Clane Youth Project are providing a free art class for teens also. The Kildare Portrait Artist of the Year competition is also taking place at 5pm in the Town Hall which the public are open to come along and watch the artist as they are put against the clock. Later in the evening there will be a chance for young teens to show their talent as Soulworks are holding an open mic night which is free to attend. There will also be a Heart Art Magic Workshop taking place which seeks to release your inner thoughts through a combination of art and meditation.

Saturday has a great variety of activities for the family and for anyone wishing to show their support for a local charity. If you are a runner then the free entry into Naas Racecourse for a timed 5km run is available again this weekend but do ensure that you have registered before attending. If you are a cyclist then you are in luck and you can choose from the following events. The Morgan Sparrow Memorial Sportive takes place at the casement aerodrome with registration beginning from 8am. The Naas Cycling Club are offering any new cyclist an introduction cycle to group cycling, showing them the rules and ethos they pride themselves on. There is a Charity Fun Cycle being hosted by the Naas Garda and in aid of the Naas Care of the Aged which leaves the station after registration at 11am. The annual Clane GAA Cycle is also taking place on Saturday and has 3 routes available to suit the different levels of the individual cyclist.

There is more still to do this Saturday afternoon as it is National Play Day and at the Kildare County Council head office there is a huge range of indoor and outdoor activities, workshops and games to amuse the entire family for a few hours. Naas Rugby FC are also holding a family open day where there will be games for the children and the Irish Rugby match playing on the big screen. If your child has too much energy to burn then RelaxKids may be of interest as they educate children about techniques on how to calm and relax themselves through their seven step system. If you are after an hour aware to yourself then why not try out a Zumba class which will have you dancing along and working out at the same time. The Clane Farmers Market will be open from 10am with your chance to grab some of the fresh local produce from the area all in one place.

On Sunday the Reservoir Dogs Cycling club are holding a fundraising event at the Rossburough House which is not for the faint hearted as it is a 125km cycle through a tough route. Later that night if you are looking for a great time and a few laughs then Conal Gallen at the Moat Theatre may be just what you are after. The funny man has put together his best show yet and is only there for one night so try grab yourself a ticket if you fancy it.
